I was in the middle of a class when I realized that the deadline for Kode with Klossy was arriving. It was a two week virtual program that explored the avenues of mobile applications and web development. I didn’t know what computer science was before. I looked at the application for the organizational program. I looked at my clock, and then applied on whim. It was almost eleven o’clock PM.

It turns out that this last minute decision was one of the best I made. I had realized the wonders and excitement that computer science could bring. It was entirely incredible to be exposed to all these new worlds. I also found a new passion for the intersection between Data Science and Public Health along with it.

I am passionate about Data Science, and its intricacies in this newfound area. The intersection between data science/statistics in global health is an interesting conglomeration. By formulating and creating plans to address public health needs, data science has the potential to change overall well-being in a population. The COVID-19 Pandemic has shown a dire need for working in Public Health, and its stance of prevention over curing. Prevention of disease is more effective and chapter than cure of any disease. Data Science helps the field of Global Health, thus bettering the population every day. My experience with computer science is that there is so much given potential in this field, and with so many career fields to explore. I can’t wait to continue this journey.
